Surestream Petroleum (Burundi) Limited initiates Environmental Impact Assessment

Surestream Petroleum (Burundi) has employed the services of the International renowned RPS Group to conduct a key Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of its blocks on Lake Tanganyika in Burundi. This process was initiated on the 7th May 2010 in Bujumbura, Burundi, with a presentation by the RPS EIA Team Leader to representatives from key ministries and environmental organisations. The aim of the presentation was to introduce the EIA team and present the methodology for the EIA and invite those attending to contribute to and assists with the process. Surestream Petroleum also used the opportunity to dispel rumours and concerns and to reaffirm its desire to protect the environmental integrity of the lake and shoreline. On completion of the EIA and prior to the issue of the final report, representatives from key ministries and environmental organisations will be invited to attend a presentation to explain the findings of the EIA and the details of the environmental management plan that will be put in place. Subject to the findings of the EIA, Surestream intend to commence seismic operations on the lake during 2011. Prior to any operations taking place there will be liaison with village elders and fishing organisations in the vicinity of the these operations.
